Cathryn so far

Scott and I went for a big, long walk last night, which was really nice because we got to talk for like an hour and a half. It was super muggy though (it's been threatening to rain all week) and I wore flip-flops (oops...blisters), but hey, exercise! Today I decided I'll count sweeping the front steps of the building and weeding and vacuuming 2 floors of the building as my workout. It was definitely hot enough to get me sweating. :P

Other than that, I've been super lazy & not very good about eating well. I think I had an apple yesterday & we had some tomatoes & lettuce on tacos last night, but I've really got to start thinking about (and buying more!) veggies. Doing better on the water, though. I'm getting addicted.

Katie's Goals

Ok. So I'm moving this week so they aren't going to start until I'm all unpacked and settled in Wisconsin.

Exercise: I'll have access to a fitness center and be right by a park so I hope to do some form of exercise every weekday. Whether it be working out in the gym or taking Naomi for long walks in the park. I'll probably start at 20 minutes and try and work my way into longer increments. (I'm so out of shape).

Eating: Ok. You guys know I'm picky. I'll start with eating an apple every day and some other fruit. Probably grapes. And I'll try to eat vegetables. Maybe a green salad with minimal dressing? Even that would be an improvement. Or maybe I'll get one of those juice drinks that have vegetable servings but taste like fruit. :) Any suggestions on vegetables I might like??

Fluids: I'm terrible at drinking water. So... more of that. And no soda or sugary drinks. Not even at social events or restaurants.

Mental Health: I won't have cable in Wisconsin so that's an extra help. But while Naomi's napping or playing I will not be on the internet all the time. Instead I will read one of the "classics" that I bought when I was pregnant (as I have a lot), work on my crafts, or look through my recipes to make something new for dinner. Something more productive than what I've been doing with that free time.

Sorry guys, I'm a chatter.

Note: I forgot to write my big goal. I plan on being at least ten pounds lighter by Christmas. This will bring me to pre-wedding weight (I think. I don't have a scale). But that's only 2 lbs a month so I think that's pretty doable.

Melissa's short-term goals

Hey!  So I say short-term goals because my life is going to drastically change in the next 5 weeks as I move back from living in my grandpa's house (where I tend to have to live under his jurisdiction and whatever he thinks due to no job or income) to being in Utah (where I'll have access to my checking account and have more control over what foods and activities are available).

  • Exercise:  I'm a little at a loss for this one right now.  It's been humid and over 100 degrees very frequently.  What pregnant exercises would you suggest if you have about the space of a queen bed?  And long walks on not-as-hot days.
  • Eating:  I need to eat when I'm hungry and not make myself sick and starve baby by ignoring the fact.  (I'd never think that my outright goal would be to eat more, this has never been a problem before.  Funny!)
  • Drink:  Drink 64 oz a day.
  • Sleep:  Yeah, do more of that too.
Like I said, short-term.  I think I will change these once I get to Utah, moved into an apartment, and start school.  Then it will be time for an update I think.

Allie's Goals

Okay, I hope to add to these, but I figure if I start small I'll have a better chance of actually doing them...

  • Exercise:  Some form of exercise every day.  30 minutes is ideal, but Savannah might prevent that some days.  So, even if it's just a walk around the block, I want to be doing something.  I'm mostly going to do this on the Wii because the game I have has quite a bit of variety.
  • Eat Better:  So, I'm a bad person who has a love affair with butter, mashed potatoes, and pasta.  I'm going to try to cut down on those things and eat more olive oil instead of butter and a lot more fresh fruits and veggies.  At least 2 fresh things a day (for now...)  And I'm going to ask Corey to stop buying lots of insanely delicious ice cream :).
  • Water:  I'm going to steal Cathryn's and try to drink at least 8 big glasses a day.
Okay, I already exercised today for like 40 minutes so I've made some progress!  And I plan on making grilled chicken salad for dinner.  And I'm drinking water as soon as I finish my root beer :).

Cathryn's Goals

Alright! This is it! You're right, Allie--I think I'll have to be a lot more accountable if these health goals are public :)

  • Exercise 30 min/day, 5 days/week
    • Some cardio, some strength building, whatever. Even just going for a walk. Hopefully I can use the Wii to help out with this, too :)
  • Get my 5-a-day
    • More veggies! And more fruit. I know that now the recommendation is like 8 or 9 servings of veggies & fruit a day, but if I can do 5 fist-sized servings, I'll be improving. I'm really interested to try to expand the types of veggies I eat, too. Kale, chard, beets, asparagus, artichokes, bok choy...I've never cooked any of these, but I intend to try!
  • Drink 100 oz. of water (/clear fluids) a day
    • I know the recommendation is, like, 60-80, but I get SO thirsty in this heat that I think I need more! My big ol' Dr. Pepper cup should help on this one, for sure.
Is that everything? I think so. Now I can't remember. I feel like these are doable. Bring it on!

Yay For Being Healthy!!!

Okay, so Cathryn and I decided we would both be more motivated to exercise if we were accountable to each other. And then I thought maybe other people would want to join us. So, I made this blog. I was thinking we could post goals on here (lose ten pounds, eat more veggies, exercise 30 minutes a day, etc.) and then we can post how we're doing. I also thought it would be fun to post healthy but yummy recipes. I think it's a good system because that way people who are just trying to be healthier can do the same as those of us trying to lose baby weight or trying to be healthy pregos. Anyway, let me know if you have any ideas and what you think!
